HMYC - The Masthead

The 2011/2012 season is fast approaching – the Opening Cruise will take place on Sunday 28th August.  There will be some champagne on the Club verandah at 10h00 for those who’ve brought their own cups/mugs, then after that we’ll take a leisurely sail round the to a venue yet to be determined where the club caterer will be waiting for us to have a braai.  If you don’t want to sail to the braai area, you will be able to reach it by road.  If you need to buy braai packs, please can you order them from Jonathan.  His work number is 033 330 3277, or e-Mail j.d.greyling@gmail.com

After lunch we’ll sail back to the Clubhouse, and the 2011/2012 Sailing season will be officially open!!

The 2011/2012 Sailing programme is now on the HMYC web site – the address is www.hmyc.org.za – there is a handy fridge door format, as well as the full version.

Please remember – owners of boats on moorings are responsible for checking their own moorings.  HMYC holds no responsibility for your boat if it breaks away from it’s mooring and lands up ashore.

I’ve had some general enquires as to who to speak to about certain things concerning the Club, so here are some answers.  There will also be a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ article on the Club web page, which will also have the answers to your queries.

Question:  When is Thami – the Club Groundsman – at the Club?
Answer:  Thami will be at the Club in the off season from Monday to Friday, 07h00 to 15h30 (he has to catch a bus home!).  During the Sailing season he’s at the Club Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, also from 07h00 to 15h30.  He has Tuesday and Wednesday off during the sailing season.

Question:  When is Heather – the Club Administrator – at the Club?
Answer:  Heather is at the Club on a Tuesday and Friday morning from 09h00 to 13h00, and she’s also there on a Saturday or Sunday if there is Club sailing on that day – again from 09h00 to 13h00.  On a non-sailing weekend she’s at the Club on a Saturday.

Question:  How do I contact the Club?
Answer:  The club e-Mail address is hmyc@mweb.co.za or the Club cell number is 083 312 7707

Question:  Who can I buy a gate key from?
Answer:  Heather, the Club Administrator.

Question:  Who can I buy a key for the outside lock on the toilets from?
Answer:  Heather, the Club Administrator.

Question:  I’d like to use the club hosepipe, but it’s the off season.  Where can I find the hosepipe?
Answer:  In the off season you must phone Georg – 083 306 9917 – or Clive – 083 399 3910 – the day before you want to use the club hosepipe and they’ll make sure that it’s available for you on that day.

Question:  My boat has been moved from my parking bay, who do I speak to about this?
Answer:  Calvin Taylor is in complete charge of boat parking in the car park.  If your boat has been moved, and Calvin has moved it, he would have moved it for a good reason!.  Please phone him on 083 278 4956 before you move it back!!

Please also remember that boat parking bays in the car park are allocated to Club members who have paid for them. There is an area in the car park for day visitors to put their boats for a day, but this mustn’t be used to store your boat!!  For those doing repairs to their boats, there are some bays near the gantry which have been set aside for this.  If you intend to clean or spray paint your boat, please use the grassed area at the end of the car park for this purpose.

Question:  I have recently joined the Club, or got another boat, who do I ask about a boat parking bay?
Answer:  Speak to Calvin – his cell number is 083 278 4956.

Question:  The electric gate isn’t working, who do I speak to about this?
Answer:  Please report any problems with the electric gate to Thami.  His cell number is 073 621 1129.
