Masthead # 4 – December 2012:

Firstly, my thanks must go to your Hon. Treasurer – Peter Forshaw – who’s done a good job in preparing a schedule of the running costs to date for the Club, and we now have a projected budget for the next 6 months going forward!!  Unfortunately we have recovered most of the 2012/2013 subs now – the outstanding ones will be made defaulters on the 1st December – so your Club won’t have much income coming in for the next six months.  We’ve had some large unforeseen expenses so far this season – the bank restoration, which is only partially completed; and we’ve managed to get the books officially audited for the past two seasons but this has cost more than anticipated.  Coupled with this is the fact that we have only two regattas at HMYC this season – the upcoming SASKZN regatta between Christmas and New Year, and the 9 Hour which will be at the beginning of March 2013 – all means is that we will have to be careful how much we spend for the next six months.  If you would like a copy of the audited accounts, please send an e-Mail to Heather – hmyc@mweb.co.za – and she’ll e-Mail one to you.

Your Committee has decided to scrap Oscar – she has served the Club well for many years, but we cannot keep her going any longer.  This means that we have to buy another power boat for the Club, which in turn means spending money!!!  We have budgeted R30000 for this, but this amount won’t cover the full cost of a boat and a 15hp motor.  Some Club members have expressed an interest in helping to contribute towards the costs involved for the new boat, so if you would like to make a donation, the Club banking details are as follows:

Bank – Standard Bank
Branch – Howick – 058325
Account number – 52445275
Deposit reference – Donation, or New Club boat

In December the Club will be busy with the SASKZN regatta, which will be held from the 27th to the 30th of December.  Come along and have a look – there will be some good racing to watch as it incorporates the Sprog National Championships and Laser Provincial Championships.

This is forward planning for you – on Saturday 2nd March 2013 HMYC will again have the 9 Hour event.  This is a fun day for all – spectators and competitors alike – and we’re hoping to have an entry of 100 boats!!!

As this will be the final Masthead of 2012, your Committee would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your family a happy Christmas and a good 2013.  We wish you lots of good sailing for the New Year!!
