MASTHEAD # 3 - 2012

Some of our members have recently made improvements around the Club at their own cost and our thanks go to these members for their generous contribution.

CLUB REGALIA

To start off the season we have a selection of new design items available to members, all displaying the Club insignia and we are confident that they will appeal to members.

Polo Shirts - Navy and Light blue        R 150
Caps - Choice of 2 styles in beige        R 50 and R 60
Burgees                    R 50

They are on display in the Club House but Hes can send you photos if you wish to view and order via email.  His e-Mail address is - hjh@telkomsa.net

MOORINGS

We still have members who have not complied with the deadline to check their moorings. This is a safety issue for all boats which are sitting on moorings. Members in default are reminded that a salvage cost will apply if their boat breaks loose – the additional risk is that the complete mooring could be lost.

MOORING IDENTIFICATION

If you have a mooring which is not in use/unoccupied please identify it to the Mooring Committee so they can tag and register it - by the end of Dec 2012. If, after this date, we are unable to identify a mooring which we consider to be unsafe it will be removed from the Dam or put out of use.

Unfortunately, we are being left with no option but to take a hard line stance on this issue.

CLUB BAR

Members will be pleased to know that the Club has taken over operation of the Bar, so income from the Bar now goes to Club funds.

We want to keep prices competitive as a service to our members, but we need volunteers behind the Bar to do so - if we have to hire labour to run the bar then part of this benefit is lost.  If you can give some of your time please give your name to Hes Hamilton who will arrange the schedule to fit in with your available time.  Help will be always be on hand so no one will be ‘left high and dry ‘!!

Monthly Mug

An overcast day but pleasant sailing conditions with an Easterly blowing about 8 to 10.  Keith doing the race officer honours chose an interesting course from the normal windward leeward sprints .A long course up to 2 ,then tight reach to 3 , down to 5 , back to 3 ,then 5 ,then finish.

9 Hunters out, 1 first class 7 and L20.So not a bad turnout.

First race saw Essex and smoken Oakem (Ant Mac and Mickey) at top can .Ant finally finding getting his boat going fast!(persistence paying off!)Followed closely by new team up of Rob Tarbie and Mark Patrick.(So Marks new boat finally sailing! and also the promise of a very good team!) Then the usuals Odin ,Nigel and CJ etc hot on the heals. Then after no 5 ,3/4 of fleet went off to 2 instead of 3 (pitty as they all had to suffer the result of a DsQ). Only 3 boats , Tarbie /Patrick,Odin and Essex went to the correct mark! At this rounding Essex was in the lead until there was a spinny foul and Tarbie and Odin catched up.This saw all sorts of drama at leeward can .Essex manged to just get in ahead of Odin (who got ahead of Patrick/Tarbie) .

Race 2 was shortened as was slightly too long so the first round of the course was sailed. Essex and the Phillips went left and this managed them to get a nice lift onto the can to come in first and second at top can. Unfortunate for the Phillips's Ant Mac managed to pip them at the finish. Mr Wilkes and the gang from RN sailed well to get a 2nd on boat handicap this race although way in the lead the handicap brought them back to 2nd . So on handicap obviously Joe and Tim taking the race.

Something new happened we went in for lunch at 2pm! I think the principle is good but we need to come in around 12.30 ie get 2 short races done then lunch ,then back on water at about 2pm for the last race. It was nice to have people socializing at lunch and also more support for our caterer Debbie.

Anyway the last race saw a few pull out . But Essex got it again ,followed too closely by Smaoken Oakem , then Tarbie/Patrick.

GD series sees Essex leading, Hunter Trophy and silver fleet are led by Joe and Tim ,then Monthly mug was taken by Essex.

On Sunday is the final Partington plate long distance series at 14.30

Cheers
Tim
