MASTHEAD # 6 – March 2013

First and foremost I’d like to thank each and every HMYC Club member who contributed in some way to the recent HMYC 9 Hour event.  Your help, no matter how small, was greatly appreciated and went a long way to making the 9 Hour the success it was!!  Yes, it was a success and many of the competitors have already said that they’ll be back next year!!  Thanks must also go to Nick Smart for donating the rubber duck and motor which were raffled.  We sold all the tickets, and got much needed revenue which will go towards the costs of the next phase of the bank restoration project.

The winners of the raffle are:
1st prize – the rubber duck – Mr Bjorn Hannsen.
2nd prize – the motor – Mr Anthony Alexander.
3rd prize – a bottle of whisky and a bottle of gin – Mr Hes Hamilton/Mrs B Tarboton.
4th prize – wine – Mr Clive Waddy.

For those of you who weren’t at the 9 Hour, your Club was very festive for the event – we had a DJ to provide music, there were some stalls selling jams and pancakes, we had the KZN Kidz Club in the clubhouse to entertain the children, and there were 60 entries.  The weather was good – not too much sun, and also not too much wind.  My thanks must also go to the generous Club members who kept on coming up to the clubhouse with prizes!!  We had one sponsor for the event – Moffatt Optical – who provided some prizes and also gave a cash donation.  Their banners and umbrellas on the grass added a welcome splash of colour to the event.

Your club hosted the Tera Provincials on the 23rd and 24th of March, and this was well attended by 15 entrants.  There was a cross-section of wind, from light to moderate, with 5 races being held on the Saturday, and 2 on the Sunday.  Sailors and parents alike enjoyed the event, and are now looking forward to coming back to the club in December, when we will be hosting the Youth Nationals!!!

Talking of the Youth Nationals, if you have any old 2 litre ice cream tubs at home and have no use for them, please will you give them to Debbie, as she will need them for lunch boxes for the Youth Nationals competitors.

I have managed to find out some more about the Rhino Club Card – the current Rhino Club card is in the process of being replaced by KZN Wildlife.  They have managed to extend the current card now until 30th June 2013 – it was due to be replaced on the 31st March 2013 – so if your card expires before the 30th June, you can just renew it temporarily until the 30th June, when the details of the new card should be finalized.

Thanks,

Brenda
