Rob Bell's report

Where have all the keelers gone?, the Ron Western has always been a well supported long distance race, what do we get, a solitary Soling skippered by Keith Gerson with Nico Jacobs and Nick Smart as crew, the evergreen Rob Tarboton on his Extra and a number of youngsters on their Laser and Tera’s.

Roy Shooter and his very capable all lady bridge crew, started the race on time into a steady North Westerly and set a course which led the fleet to Ashely , Thurlow and then  to Orient with a final leg home around number one to the finish at the jetty with the Soling just ahead of the Extra. It was a great day for sailing and the youngsters really enjoyed themselves, it is a pity that more members did not pitch. Thanks to Roy, Margaret and her sister from Canada for running the event, once again where is the support for their effort and that includes me.    Rob Bell
