MASTHEAD # 5 - FEBRUARY 2013

The SAS KZN regatta was held once again between Christmas and New Year at HMYC, and this was a great success. There were two courses, with the open class sailing on the one course, and the Sprogs and Lasers on another. The Sprogs had their Nationals, while the Lasers had their KZN Provincials Championships at this regatta. Both these classes enjoy coming to Midmar at this time of year, and similarly HMYC enjoys hosting them! The weather was good with sun and wind, and our thanks go to Rob Samways and Anton Ellens for being Race Officers on the two courses.

The Midmar Mile will be held on the 9th and 10th February, and Club members are again reminded that your Club has been hired out to one of the swimming clubs for the whole weekend for this event, so you won’t be able to go to the Club on either of these days.

The next major event coming up on the sailing calendar is the 2013 HMYC 9 Hour – this will be held on Saturday the 2nd March. The organising committee is trying very hard to make this a memorable event, so please come and support your Club, and have an enjoyable day.

There is a raffle which will be drawn on the Saturday evening – tickets cost R100 and among the prizes are a rubber duck and a 3hp engine. You don’t have to be at the 9 Hour to claim your prize if you win – you just have to buy a ticket which you can get from Hes Hamilton. The proceeds of the raffle will go towards the cost of repairing the eroding bank in the car park.

Registration for the 9 Hour is on Friday 1st March, from 16h30 to 20h00, and also on the morning of Saturday 2nd March, from 07h00 until 08h15, with the race starting at 09h30.

HMYC will also be hosting the Tera Provincials on 23rd and 24th March, so the month of March will be a busy one for your Club.

There is now an HMYC trailer available for Club members to rent for use within the Club grounds. The trailer is suitable for a Hunter or similar size keelboat, and can be used if you want to take your boat out of the water to clean it with the high pressure hose, or want to do some on-shore maintenance on your boat but don’t have a trailer for it. The rental is R75 per week, and you should contact either Hes Hamilton or Clive Waddy for more information about it.
