MASTHEAD # 7 – May 2013

The 2012/2013 season has now officially closed, but there is still sailing up at the Club on Sundays, with the von Klemperer and the Brass Monkey series still to be sailed.
The closing cruise went off very well, and although there was no wind for the boats to sail up to the braai location, most of them either motored or were towed there.  We even raised the HMYC burgee at the site and temporarily claimed the area as Club property!!

One of the containers at the back of the clubhouse has recently been cleared out, and as a result there are a lot of sails which were stowed there which must now be claimed.  There are some Hunter mainsails and jibs amongst these, and if you would like to claim or buy one, please contact Clive Waddy.  A nominal fee will be charged in either case.
The next major event at the Club is the AGM and prize-giving, both of which will be held on Sunday 23rd June.  I hope to see you there.  Debbie will provide a cooked 3 course lunch, for R90 per head, the details of which will be provided later.

There has been a change in the incumbent in the post of Club Administrator – Heather Marshall has left the employ of HMYC and her place has been taken by Connie Gray.  I wish Heather well in her retirement, and I’m sure that Connie will soon settle into the job.  The contact details for Connie are the same as they were for Heather.

The 2013/2014 subscription invoices will shortly be sent to you – we have kept the increase to a minimum this year, but please will you pay your subs within thirty days of the date of the invoice?  If you want to pay over three months, rather than a lump sum up front, this can be arranged but you must contact Connie Gray to set this up.  It was agreed at a recent Club committee meeting that any subscriptions which aren’t settled within 30 days of date of invoice will attract an interest charge.  And, if you haven’t paid your subs within three months of date of invoice, you will be declared a defaulter and excluded from access to the Club.  We have had to take this radical decision as a lot of time was spent this past season chasing up people who were tardy in paying their club subscriptions, and this is unacceptable.  The good news regarding your subs is that if you are over 70 years of age, and you furnish Connie with a copy of your ID book, you will be exempt from SAS fees for the new season.

If you have any spare 2 litre ice cream boxes, please will you give them to Debbie as we will need them for lunch boxes for the SAS Youth Nationals which your club will be hosting next season?
I hope to see you at the AGM in June, and I would like to thank all of you for your support during the past season – it has helped tremendously to know that you care about your Club
