The first of the Partington Plate events saw a sunny Saturday afternoon with a wind switch from the NW to the NE just before the start of the race, therefore the course that Race Officer Roy Shooter had set S,6,5,C,4,2,1, F started and finished on a run, This actually proved to be the better course because with the wind picking up strength behind them, by the time the three PYC lLasers, Rob’s Extra and Alan Barr’s Dart had round No(6) they were really starting to move. The two Hunters, Mark Hulzer’s recently launched boat with spanking new sails, shining in the sunlight and Tim Kerry and his daughter not to far behind.. The race continued in an ever increasing wind, which saw Alan approaching the finish but for some reason only known to themselves the Dart and one of the Lasers sailed on through the outer moorings, leaving an exciting photofinish between the remaining Lasers and the Extra, at first it looked like Andrew Walford would be the first to cross the line, but he ran into a dead patch just off the jetty and Rob Tarboton slipped in followed by Campbell Alexander, Mark’s Hunter came in two minutes later followed by Tim and his daughter, Everybody enjoyed their race, even those who went astray. Thanks goes to Roy Shooter ably assisted by his wife Margaret for running the event and giving us an entertaining afternoon.
